As you may have heard there is an ongoing volcanic eruption on the Reykjanes peninsula. This is the 7th eruption in the past 12 months in this region. The eruption poses no danger to the capital nor has it interrupted air traffic to and from Iceland. A good overview of the event can be found on the official public safety website.
We would also like to point out that the Icelandic Met office website is a great resource of information for much more than just the weather. Their website in English can be found here.
Other good online resources to be aware of if you are traveling in Iceland are:
- The road works website shows the condition of all roads.
- A detailed map of Iceland can be found here. This map is made by the aerial photography of Loftmyndir ehf. They have updated images that show all but the lates lava flows.
- Visit Reykjavik website has information on what to see and do in the Capital.
